Whole-Life Performance Engineer

BRE is undertaking a major four-year R&D programme in the construction sector together with an alliance of partners and stakeholders. This is to deliver the Construction Innovation Hub (Hub) focusing on offsite construction and digital technologies and processes, supported by a £72m grant from UKRI (https://transformingconstruction.org.uk/).

One of the key workstreams within the Hub programme is the Value Toolkit, which offers clients a structured approach to value-based decision making across the investment lifecycle of a project or programme. This means better outcomes from both what and how projects are delivered, leading to a more sustainable built environment and a more sustainable model for our industry. A pilot version of the Toolkit is currently being tested by industry.

Fire Resistance Lab Technician

Overview:

We have extensive and unique, world class facilities for Fire Research and Testing to European and International standards. We test on a wide range of building and marine elements such as fire doors, walls, partitions, protection on structural steelwork, dampers and ducts to British, European and marine standards. To support this area of work we're looking for  Technicians to join the Fire team.

 

Why does this role exist?

You will work collaboratively and flexibly amongst a wider team of Technicians and Test Engineers to provide the full range of activities required for the preparation of and conducting of fire resistance tests.

Activities will include installation of constructional elements onto the furnace test frames and loading of furnaces, installation and set-up of instrumentation such as thermocouples and transducers, maintenance of equipment, off-loading/loading of deliveries plus many more tasks to support our Test Engineers and ensuring we provide a first class testing service to our clients.

You will also:

  • Maintain the laboratory and associated spaces in line with housekeeping standards.

The role reports to the Business Systems Manager and is responsible for working with; Business stakeholders, Business System Design Analysts and 3rd party consultants to map requirements for ‘systems’ into configured and tested functionality that efficiently and effectively meets BRE’s changing business needs. The role is focused on driving ‘value’ from investments in corporate systems, by ensuring data can be efficiently captured by our systems, business processes are streamlined, standardised, systems integrate where needed and high-quality management information can be produced to provide the ‘outputs’ required by managers. Increasingly BRE are moving to SaaS ‘cloud’ solutions to meet their business system’s needs.

The role will document requirements for systems, map out business processes and work with colleagues and consultants to configure systems to meet the needs of the business. The role will also be involved in the specification of ‘testing’ scenarios to help ensure that changes to systems, and new systems, are ‘fit for purpose’ prior to go-live.

Housing Modelling Consultant

LPS 1048 Scheme Manager (Auditor)
