We are offering a trade specific apprenticeship programme coupled with completion of academic qualifications in one of the following areas: electronic, mechanical or civil engineering.

The Fire Detection and Fire Suppression teams are leading providers for the testing and approvals of fire safety products under the internationally recognised LPCB brand, ensuring that end users can trust the performance of the products they purchase. BRE has extensive world class facilities for the testing of fire detection products to European and international standards. 

Our fire engineers and scientists work towards improving fire safety across the world. Our work involves the use of materials, test instrumentation, climatic and environmental testing, research and best practice fire safety engineering principles.


BRE’s Security Team is a renowned and respected provider of security testing, research and standards that help to protect people and property from crime and terrorism. It is also responsible for issuing security product approvals under our internationally recognised LPCB brand, ensuring end users and other stakeholders can rely on those products to deliver the required protection against crime and terrorism.

Our work involves preparation of laboratories for test programmes, testing of security products, collecting and recording of test data and writing test and evaluation reports. The testing typically involves physical attack testing (i.e. breaking in) of security products such as doors, windows, enclosures and safes. This testing is carried out at BRE Watford and at client’s factories around the UK.


Working in our environmental team will provide apprentices with an opportunity to learn about a wide range of disciplines related to the built environment including building design and assembly, product testing, report writing and research. These work areas are varied and are often based on bespoke requirements resulting in a stimulating and problem-solving orientated work environment.

Requirements for the scheme:

  • 5 GCSE’s Grade C or above, including English, Maths & Science
  • An interest in science, the built environment, electronic, mechanical or civil engineering
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
